Mitchell Surprenant, 5, sleepily awaits an early morning departure. Once every two weeks in the summer, and once a month in the winter, the Surprenant family heads to Millinocket Maine, the nearest town, to run errands. Surplus army trucks carry them over the nearly impassable four miles to a parking lot carved out of the northern Maine woods. Parents David and Luisa Surprenant decided to sell their business ventures in Southern Massachuesetts to purchase the Chesuncook Lake House. The summer population swells to around 40, but the family now represents seven of twelve full-time residents of the village.
